His entire oeuvre can be assigned to post-war modernism and includes school buildings, sacred buildings and residential buildings in southern Germany. Often the buildings are made of exposed concrete . Strict structural order defines its architecture. After he was awarded third place in 1954 for his design for the Stuttgart Memorial Church, Salzbrenner and KH Neumann won first prize in the competition for the new district administration building in Waiblingen, which was decided in 1952 . The sun protection of the Dillmann-Gymnasium in Stuttgart, which in its entirety represents a cultural monument in the state capital Stuttgart, received international attention . When designing the Heilbronn high school, Salzbrenner prevailed over 41 other proposals. The construction of the Ev. Emmaus Church in Karlsruhe (cultural monument of the city of Karlsruhe) was also preceded by a competition, from which Salzbrenner's model emerged as the winner.
