Randolf Rausch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Randolf Rausch (born July 29, 1950 in Crailsheim ) is a German geologist who specializes in hydrogeology .

Life

Randolf Rausch went to school in Rot am See , Crailsheim and Korntal (boarding school: large student residence). In 1969 he passed the Abitur at the Korntal-Münchingen grammar school . He then studied geology at the University of Stuttgart and then at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in 1982 under Gerhard Einsele .

After completing his studies, he first worked in an engineering office, from 1983 in the hydrogeology department of the State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining in Baden-Württemberg. There he was mainly active in area development, hydrogeological mapping, IT and groundwater modeling. From 2003 to 2004 he was in Jordan on behalf of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) . As part of the technical cooperation, he headed the “Groundwater Resources Management” project at the Ministry of Water & Irrigation. From 2004 to 2014 he worked for the Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Saudi Arabia . There he was the scientific director of the water and groundwater studies, which GIZ carried out together with Dornier Consulting for the kingdom. The focus of the work was the exploration of the groundwater resources on the Arab platform. Rausch has been working in research and teaching at the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Rottenburg University of Forestry since 2015 .

Rausch recognized the possibilities of electronic data processing in the geosciences early on - especially in the field of groundwater flow and transport modeling - and put them into practice. In addition to a large number of publications and courses at home and abroad, some of which he carried out on behalf of the Carl Duisberg Society (CDG), International Continuing Education and Development gGmbH (InWEnt) and the University of Bremen , he has several textbooks on the subject Drafted groundwater modeling and contributed to the development of programs for groundwater modeling. Since 2003, the topic of "hydrogeology of arid areas" has been another focus of his research activities.

From 1996 to 2005 he was a lecturer at the Summer University of Hydrogeology-Environmental Geology at the University of Bremen, from 1996 to 1997 visiting professor at the University of Padua and from 2003 to 2004 visiting professor at the University of Jordan . In 2008 he was appointed honorary professor by the Technical University of Darmstadt . Since 2010 he has been the spokesman for the FH-DGG working group “Hydrogeology of arid areas”.

honors and awards

  • In 1990 he received the German University Software Prize for the simulation program "ASM (Aquifer Simulation Model)" in the civil engineering department from the Academic Software Cooperation (ASK).
  • In 2009 he was awarded the Abraham Gottlob Werner Medal of the German Society for Geosciences (DGG) for his services in the field of hydrogeology.
  • In 2013 he was awarded the Business Medal of the State of Baden-Württemberg for outstanding services to the economy.
