Randolph L. "Randy" Smyth (born July 7, 1954 in Pasadena ) is a former American sailor .
successes
Randy Smyth took part in two Olympic Games in the Tornado boat class . In 1984 he finished second with Jay Glaser in Los Angeles , securing the silver medal behind the New Zealand and ahead of the Australian boat. Eight years later he won the silver medal again in Barcelona , this time with Keith Notary . With 42 points they finished second behind the French and ahead of the Australians. At world championships , Smyth and Jay Glaser won the title in Carnac in 1981 and Kingston in 1982 . In 1984 and 1985 they also became vice world champions together.
Smyth was also active in numerous offshore regattas. Among other things, he won the America's Cup in 1988 as a team member of Stars & Stripes .
