Rangel Petrow Waltschanow ( Bulgarian Рангел Петров Вълчанов ; born October 12, 1928 in Kriwina , † September 30, 2013 Sofia ) was a Bulgarian film director and actor.

Life

Waltschanow studied at the Sofia Theater School. In 1966 his daughter Ani Waltschanowa was born, who also became an actress. He has worked on a large number of Bulgarian films as a director, screenwriter and actor and was a member of the European Film Academy . He died of cancer in 2013 at the age of 84.

Awards

Waltschanow worked as an assistant director on the German-Bulgarian co-production stars , which was awarded a special jury prize at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1959 . The occupation of the female lead with Sascha Kruscharska, his wife at the time, goes back to his proposal.

Waltschanow's films have won several international film awards. In 1962, Sonne und Schatten won an award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and a Golden Rose for Best Director . He received further Golden Roses for Best Director in 1964 for Search by Night , The Coroner and the Forest (1976) and the Ballad of the Black Patent Leather Shoes (1980). In 1988 A sega nakade? the special prize of the jury of the Golden Rose. Pateshestvie mezhdu dva filma was awarded the best documentary film at the Golden Rhyton Bulgarian Documentary and Animation Film Festival in 1998. A dnes nakade won an award at the Love is Folly International Film Festival in Bulgaria in 2007 .

In addition, his films have been nominated for other awards several times. In 1960 his film First Examination for a Golden Palm and in 1976 the film The Coroner and the Forest was nominated for a Golden Bear . The ballad of the black patent leather shoes had another nomination at the 1979 Chicago International Film Festival . In 1987 the film Traumfahrt was nominated at the Moscow International Film Festival .
