Ranji Trophy 2016/17
The Ranji Trophy 2016/17 was the 82nd season of the national first-class cricket competition in India and was held from October 6, 2016 to January 14, 2017. The winner was Gujarat , who won the final with 5 wickets against Mumbai .
format
The teams played in three groups once against each other team in their group. The group allocation is based on that of the previous season 2015/2016 , with the last group in groups A and B being relegated to group C and the two group leaders in group C being promoted to groups A and B. A team received 6 points for a win and 3 points for a draw (both teams achieve the same number of runs ). If no result is achieved and the game ends in a draw, the results after the first innings count . There are three points for a win and one point for a tie or a loss. A bonus point is awarded for wins with one innings or with a lead of 10 wickets. The first three teams from groups A and B qualify for the quarter-finals, and the best two teams from group C. From there, the winner of the Ranji Trophy is played out in neutral stadiums in the knockout system.
