Raoul Dutheil (born December 13, 1901 in present-day Algeria , † unknown) was a French football player and coach .

Club career

The striker Dutheil came from Algeria, which was then under French rule, and came to metropolitan France as a teenager, where he ran under amateur conditions for the Racing Strasbourg football club from 1923 . The player, who was preferred on the right wing , pursued a parallel career as a professional soldier. As such, he belonged to a regiment that included several of his teammates from the soccer team. In 1928 he moved to AS Cannes and was part of a team that was regularly among the best in the country in the national cup. They made it to the cup final in 1932 and Dutheil was on the field when his team won the trophy with a 1-0 win against RC Roubaix .

In the year of the cup success, Cannes was one of the twenty clubs that founded Division 1, a national professional league . Dutheil was on the field when his team started on September 11, 1932 with a 5-5 draw against SC Fives in the competition, but for some time lost his regular place. Cannes reached the final of the championship, which was only played in the opening year of the league, but was not involved in this final and had to accept a 3-4 defeat of his teammates. In the following season he hardly played a role, which led to the end of his career; by then he had played at least twelve first division games in professional times.

Coaching career

During the 1936/37 season, Dutheil was responsible for coaching the first division club FC Antibes . In the following season he carried out the same function at the second division club FC Toulouse . With the ES Troyes AC he coached another well-known club from 1943 to 1944, even if the game was only continued unofficially at that time due to the Second World War .

National team

Dutheil made his debut for the French national team on April 14, 1929 in an 8-1 defeat against Spain . The friendly game, in which he could not score a goal, remained the only international match he was allowed to play.
