Raoul van der Weide

Raoul van der Weide (* 1949 in Fontenailles ) is a Dutch jazz bassist.

Van der Weide played the violin in Noord-Hollands Jeugdorkest for six years . He studied (classical) double bass with John Clayton and Norma Brooks and counterpoint with Guus Janssen .

He worked with Bert Koppelaar's PUNT-UIT Orkest and various Guus Janssen formations and was a member of Paul Termos ' Trio, Burton Greene's Quartet, the Spazio Trio (with Conny Bauer and Günter Sommer ), the Luc Houtkamp Quartet and the Ab Baars Sextet . He worked on several projects by Peter Zegveld and played with the Gravitones , which were awarded the Winnaars Dordtse Jazzprijs in 1995 , with Joost Buis & The Famous Astronotes and the New Crosscurrents Sextet .

Van der Weide is currently active in two formations: the Sound Lee! Quartet / Quintet (with Guus Janssen, Jorrit Dijkstra , Jasper Blom and Wim Janssen ), in a trio with Matt Piet / Frank Rosaly ( Out of Step ) and the As If Trio (with Frank van Bommel and Wim Janssen). At the beginning of 2006 he released the solo album Passages , which he dedicated to his friend and colleague Paul Termos, who died in 2003.
