Raphaela Johanna Gromes (born March 16, 1991 in Munich ) is a German cellist.

Life

Raphaela Gromes is the daughter of the cellists Wilhelm Gromes and Astrid Hedler-Gromes. At the age of four she received her first cello lessons from her mother and also piano lessons. Since the age of seven she gained concert experience by participating in performances by her parents as "Nymphenburger Celloduo" and made her debut in autumn 2005 as a soloist in the cello concerto by Friedrich Gulda. This was followed by cello concertos by Haydn , Dvořák , Elgar and Saint-Saëns as well as the Triple Concerto by Beethoven , the double concerto by Brahms and Pjotr ​​Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations. Contemporary works such as Her repertoire includes, for example, the cello concertos composed for her by Dominik Giesriegl (2012), Valentin Bachmann (2013) and the double concerto "Chroma" by Mario Bürki , which premiered in 2014 .

From 2006 to 2010 she studied as a young student with Peter Bruns at the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy University in Leipzig. Since graduating from high school in fall 2010 at the Performing Camerloher Gymnasium Freising she studied at the Munich Academy of Music in Wen-Sinn Yang and later Reinhard Latzko at the University of Music and Performing Arts. She has been an exclusive artist at Sony Classical since 2016.

She has dedicated herself to chamber music with numerous well-known partners, especially since 2011 with Amelie Böckheler in the Duo Servais and since 2012 with her permanent pianist Julian Riem. With a varied repertoire ranging from classical and romantic sonatas, such as by Schubert and Brahms, to music of the 20th century and contemporary works, the duo Gromes / Riem performs nationally and has found a. Attention at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival 2017.
