Rapotho
Rapotho (also Rapoto , Rapato ; wrongly also Rapoto von Abenberg ; † after 1170) was the first abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Heilsbronn from 1132 to 1157 , before he was the second abbot of the Langheim monastery . From around 1166 until his resignation around 1170, he is proven to be the abbot of Ebrach Monastery .
Life
Nothing is known about the childhood and youth of the future abbot Rapotho. The older literature assumes that it came from the dynasty of the Counts of Abenberg , who founded Heilsbronn Monastery on behalf of Otto I. von Bamberg. A relationship to this family, in particular to Rapoto von Abenberg of almost the same name , cannot be proven and is not supported by the ascribed coat of arms of the Langheim monastery.
Rapoto initially worked for over ten years as the founding abbot in Heilsbronn before he became the second abbot in Langheim. Around the year 1164 he came to the Cisterze Ebrach, where he succeeded the blessed founding abbot Adam . Here he continued Adam's work and forced the acquisition of several goods for the abbey: Bishop Heinrich II of Würzburg donated several properties to Ebrach, and in 1170 the Herald of Würzburg did the same. Rapotho resigned in Ebrach and died after 1170.
coat of arms
A copper engraving from around 1720 ascribes a personal coat of arms to the Abbot of Langheim. Description : A crenellated tower on one floor, an arm with an abbot's staff reaching out of the open gate. The tinging of the coat of arms is not known. Since it is only an attribution, the authenticity of the coat of arms is controversial.
