Herold von Höchheim († August 3, 1171 in Würzburg ) was Bishop of Würzburg from 1165 to 1171 .

Herold came from the Franconian noble family of those von Höchheim . He was also provost of the Haug and St. Gumbertus monasteries in Ansbach . After the Würzburg Reichstag in 1165, Herold was elected Bishop of Würzburg. In July 1168 , Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa confirmed Herold's ducal rights through the Güldene Freiheit , which also made the Hochstift Würzburg a duchy. With this document the reign of the prince-bishops began as spiritual and secular rulers. The term of the privilege and the certificate has been passed down since the 16th century by Lorenz Fries chronicle of the Würzburg bishops .
