Reginhard von Abenberg (* around 1120; † June 15, 1186 in Würzburg ) was Bishop of Würzburg from 1171 to 1186 .

origin

Reginhard came from the counts of the von Abenberg - Frensdorf family . His father was Wolfram von Abenberg. His brother was Rapoto von Abenberg , Vogt of the Bamberg Monastery and founder of the Heilsbronn Monastery . He was canon of Neumünster since 1151 and canon at Würzburg Cathedral since 1154 .

Reginhard initially ruled the diocese as an elect , not until 1177 that he was ordained bishop .

Imperial politics

Reginhard was involved in phases in Friedrich Barbarossa's 5th Italian campaign . At the end of 1175, the emperor turned to the princes with the request to support him with new contingents. The diocese of Würzburg was at its financial limits and the cathedral chapter had to balance the enormous financial burden on the one hand and the benevolence of the emperor on the other when pledging its goods. At the peace of Venice in July 1177 with Alexander III. was the diocese of Würzburg a. a. represented by the Chancellor and Provost of Würzburg, Gottfried von Spitzenberg , who later became the bishop.

Even if Reginhard was hardly involved in imperial politics, he was directly involved in the overthrow of Henry the Lion . At the 1180 Reichstag in Würzburg, Heinrich's all imperial fiefs were revoked.
