Rashad Anton Evans (born September 25, 1979 ) is an American mixed martial arts fighter from Lansing , Michigan .

Life and martial arts career

Rashad Evans has seven siblings. He was an all-state wrestler twice during his high school years at Niagara Wheatfield High School in Niagara County , New York . Upon graduation in 1998, he went to Niagara County Community College, where he won the National Junior College championship in wrestling up to 165 lb (75 kg) in 2000. He began his MMA career in 2004 with victories in Dangerzone - Cage Fighting. Via Gladiator Challenge he reached the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2005 , where he won the second season of The Ultimate Fighter . In December 2008 he won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship title from Forrest Griffin , but lost it again in the following fight against Lyoto Machida . Then he won against Thiago Silva and Quinton Jackson . After May 29, 2010 his match record was 15 wins, one draw and one defeat. After beating Phil Davis on points, he fought again for the UFC crown in April 2012, but lost to Jon "Bones" Jones by points. Also in his next fight he suffered a defeat. Despite being considered a big favorite, he lost to veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira unanimously on points.

On the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter Evans participated as a coach.
