Rasmus Ole Lyberth (born August 21, 1951 in Maniitsoq ) is a Greenlandic singer , songwriter and actor who works internationally. Since 1970 he has been one of the most popular artists on the Greenlandic music scene.

Life

Rasmus Lyberth was born in Maniitsoq , but grew up in Nuuk , where he started playing guitar at the age of twelve. He is the son of the teacher and writer Erik Mads Rasmus Lyberth (1924–1988), a brother of Enos Lyberth (1931–2016), and his wife Emma. In 1969 he began with small gigs in bars in Copenhagen , but initially had to make do with other jobs until success gave him the chance to make a living from his profession as a musician. In 1974 he released his first album Erningaa .

That album was a success and the second followed a few years later, then he took a little musical break. Lyberth was also on the stage at the Greenlandic Tuukkaq Teatret . He also gave various concerts not only in Denmark and Greenland , but also in many other countries in Europe and North America . Rasmus Lyberth also worked with other musicians, including Christian Alvad and the Lars Lilholt Band . Lyberth has always tried to try new things on the side , for example he published a volume of poetry in 2001 under the title Inuuneq asaguk inuunerup asammatit ( Elsk livet for livet elsker dig , English love life for life ) and also made figures from soapstone .

Rasmus Lyberth has received many awards over the years for his dissemination of Greenlandic culture, including from Foreningen Norden and the Statens Kunstfond . He is the holder of the Dannebrog Order and received the Greenlandic Culture Prize in 1989 .
