The Rassower Strom is the narrowest point between the heartland of the island of Rügen ( Muttland ) in the south and the Wittow peninsula in the north. In it, the Wieker Bodden in the west and the Breetzer Bodden in the east - both parts of the Rügen Inner Bodden chain - meet.

At the narrowest point it is only 350 meters wide. There the state road L 30 leads across the river on the Wittower ferry . The northern ferry pier is in the Wittower Fähre district of Wieker , the southern one between the districts of Vaschvitz and Fischersiedlung in the municipality of Trent .

In severe winters, when the bodies of water in the Bodden freeze over, the Rassower Strom remains mostly ice-free due to the current to and from the eastern Bodden (summarized as the Großer and Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden ) of the Bodden chain and then offers refuge for many waterfowl .
