Rastbach (Saarbrücken)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rastbach is a former stream in today's city of Saarbruecken . Its source was in what is now the Rastpfuhl district near the Rhönweg and continued to flow in a predominantly southwestern direction through the Burbach district . About 300 meters south of Burbach market led the Rastbach in Burbach (Weyerbach). The Rastbach had a total length of approx. 2 km.

Rastbach in 1850

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the Rastbach was completely piped from its source to the mouth and is now part of the rainwater sewer system .

The Rastbachweg street on the Rastpfuhl, the Rastbachtal comprehensive school and the Rastbachtalhalle (sports hall) are still reminiscent of the Rastbach. For reasons of fresh air supply, the Rastbachtal is now deliberately kept free of interlocking buildings. The slopes in the Rastbachtal west of the Caritasklinikum St. Theresia are called Geißenberg and used to be a popular tobogganing area .
