The Town Hall Rheydt is in the district of Rheydt in Mönchengladbach ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ), Market 11/12/13.
The building was built in 1894–96. It was entered in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach on May 14, 1985 under no. M 013 .
architecture
The Town Hall , together with the little later built Protestant main church a Rheydter for the city center in historical and urban alike dominant assembly . The corner building of the former “Königl. Bezirkskommandos ”forms a third accent in the historical“ city crown ”of the Rheydt district, formed by the town hall and the ev. Main church. The connecting building of the former district court is only preserved as a structure.
Former Royal District Command
Erected in 1900 for the royal building serving the military registration. Prussian district command, which had been moved from Erkelenz to Rheydt at the instigation of the citizens . The building is a three-storey two-wing building made of brick with gothic stucco decoration. Steep slate roofed , canted in the corner gable roof . The main front to the market has seven axes, the side to Limitenstrasse has nine axes.
High-quality historicist building with a characteristic, painterly structure, an essential part of the new public buildings erected around 1900 on Rheydter Hauptplatz. As a testimony to the city's gain in prestige within the company as a whole, a contemporary redesign of the Rheydt city center was of great importance to the district command.
Former district court
The building, built in 1880, was taken over by the city administration in 1905 to add an additional storey and to give it a correspondingly redesigned facade . The eaves continuous three-storey building has a developed gable roof. During the repairs carried out in 1951, the stucco facade was chipped off and replaced with simple scratch plaster. In place of the former risalit gable , a wide dormer window was installed.
