Sabina Schulze

Sabina Schulze (born March 19, 1972 in Leipzig , after marriage to Sabina Keßler ) is a former swimmer who competed for the GDR .

Career

Sabina Schulze started for the SC DHfK Leipzig until 1989 . After the reunification she moved to SV Cannstatt .

At the GDR championships in 1986 , Sabina Schulze won the GDR championship title with the 100-meter freestyle relay and the layer relay. At the Junior European Championships in 1986 she won over 100 meters freestyle and over 100 meters butterfly as well as in both relays. At the 1986 World Swimming Championships , Sabina Schulze swam with Kristin Otto , Manuela Stellmach and Heike Friedrich in the 100 meter freestyle relay and won the world championship in a world record time of 3: 40.57 minutes.

At the GDR championships in 1987 , Schulze took third place over 100 meters butterfly behind Birte Weigang and Kristin Otto . As the final swimmer in the Leipzig individual layer relay, she again won the GDR championship title. At the Junior European Championships in 1987 she won again on the 100-meter butterfly course.

At the GDR championships in 1988 Sabina Schulze again won the title with the layer relay. As sixth on the 100-meter freestyle course, she qualified as a substitute for the GDR Olympic team . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , the GDR freestyle relay won the first run with Katrin Meißner , Sabina Schulze, Heike Friedrich and Daniela Hunger . In the final, the East German relay team with Kristin Otto, Katrin Meißner, Daniela Hunger and Manuela Stellmach won in 3: 40.63 minutes, just missing the world record of 1986. According to the rule that has been in force since the 1984 Olympic Games, Sabina Schulze and Heike Friedrich also received a gold medal for their work in the preliminary run.

Sabina Schulze's mother Karin Schulze was an Olympian in the high jump as Karin Rüger, her father Thomas Schulze was GDR high jump indoor champion.
