The predatory catfish ( Clarias ) represent the main genus in the family of the gill sac catfish (Clariidae). This genus comprises 54 species and is the only one native to the waters of Africa , the Middle East and Southeast Asia . Since some representatives of this genus can reach quite impressive sizes of over one meter, grow quickly, are very fertile and are also found in large numbers in waters with less than optimal oxygen conditions, they are popular as important meat suppliers in many countries and of economic importance for pond farming and that Fishing industry. As the name suggests, predatory catfish are all predatory fish that feed primarily on fish. The flat body of the predatory catfish is uniformly colored dark gray to black or mud-brown in most species. The dorsal fin is a fin edge that covers almost the entire body without a prominent first dorsal fin spine. The pectoral fin spines, however, are very strong.
