Raunchy is a metal band from Denmark , which stylistically draws from genres such as alternative metal , nu metal , metalcore , industrial metal and, since the latest album, also melodic death metal , but calls their style "Futuristic Hybrid Metal". Since the 2008 album Wasteland Discotheque , elements of pop music can also be found in the songs for the first time . The style of the band can be roughly summarized as the sub-genre Neo-Thrash .

Band history

The band was founded in 1992 by Jesper Tilsted, Jesper Kvist and Morten Toft Hansen in Copenhagen . In 1994 the formation, meanwhile strengthened by Lars Vognstrup for vocals and Lars Christensen for the second guitar, renamed itself Raunchy.

In 2002 their debut album Velvet Noise was released under Nuclear Blast , which was characterized by brutal guitar parts. The album was first released as a digipack on the Mighty Music label, the second release including a bonus track on Nuclear Blast.

In 2003 the band recorded their second album Confusion Bay , which was released a year later. In the same year Lars Vognstrup left the band and was replaced by Kasper Thomsen.

In early 2006, their album Death Pop Romance went on sale, which, like the two predecessors, resembles the music of the band Fear Factory . Shortly afterwards they toured Germany with Soulfly . In November 2006 Raunchy went on a tour with Hatesphere and Volbeat called "The Danish Dynamite Tour". During this tour they also played five concerts in Germany. Also in 2006 Raunchy won the Danish Metal Awards in the categories “Production of the Year” and “Artwork of the Year”.

In 2007 a re-release of Raunchy's first album appeared under the name Velvet Noise Extended on the Mighty Music label.

A year later, Wasteland Discotheque appeared , which no longer resembled the music of Fear Factory so much, but drew its influences from keyboard and synthesizer . In addition, songs like Somebody's Watching Me no longer moved to metal , but to pop music level.

The new album A Discord Electric was released on September 20 in Denmark and on October 8, 2010 in Germany , Austria and Switzerland and, like its predecessor, was released under Lifeforce Records . Like its predecessor, the music on the album was very pop-heavy and heavily influenced by the keyboard.

On March 14, 2013 Kasper Thomsen announced on the official website of the band that he is no longer part of this. A little later, Mike Semesky was introduced to the public as the band's new singer. In December 2013, Raunchy changed labels and signed a contract with Massacre Records . In the same press release, the band also announced a new album to be released in 2014.
