Ray Norton

Otis Ray Norton (born September 22, 1937 in Tulsa ) is a retired American athlete who was successful in the 100-meter and 200-meter disciplines in the late 1950s . He started for the State University of San José .

Career

His greatest success was at the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago , where he won gold over 100 meters in 10.3 s from Mike Agostini (10.4 s) and Enrique Figuerola (10.5 s).

Ray Norton equalized a world record several times:

  • 9.3 s over 100 y (1958 and 1960)
  • 10.1 s over 100 meters (1959)
  • 20.6 s over 200 meters (four times in 1959 and 1960)
  • 20.5 s over 200 meters (1960)

He won four Amateur Athletic Union and one National Collegiate Athletic Association championships:

He participated in the XVII. Participated in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , but had three bad luck: he was over 100 and 200 meters in 10.50 s (victory time of Armin Hary : 10.32 s) and 21.09 s (victory time of Italian Livio Berruti : 20th , 62 s) sixth in each case, and as a member of the victorious 4 x 100 meter relay , he was disqualified.

Norton had a competition weight of 81 kg with a height of 1.88 m. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996.
