Livio Berruti

Livio Berruti (born May 19, 1939 in Turin ) is a former Italian athlete .

Life

Despite the height of 1.88 m, Berruti's competition weight was only 66 kg. His greatest success was winning the Olympic gold medal in the 200-meter run on September 3, 1960 in Rome .

On the same day, Berruti ran in the semifinals for 20.5 s (20.65 s), which at the time meant equalizing the world record for a circular track with a full curve. At 100 Meters Berruti did not take part in Rome. He achieved his best time over this route on May 26, 1960 in Verona with 10.2 seconds (hand-stopped).

After his Olympic victory, he could not quite build on these achievements, but as the best European in the final of the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 20.8 s, he reached 5th place. Henry Carr (USA) won in 20.3 s.
