Raymond Forni

Raymond Forni (* 20th May 1941 in Belfort , † 5. January 2008 in Paris ) was a French politician of the PS .

Life

Born in France to Italian immigrants, Forni took French citizenship at the age of seventeen . In 1962 he graduated from high school and then studied law.

In 1973 Forni was first elected to the Assemblée nationale . At the same time he was a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1984 . In 1981 he became chairman of the Legal Committee of the French Parliament. In 1985 he resigned when François Mitterrand appointed him head of the Haute Autorité de la communication audiovisuelle . He held this office until the authority was abolished a year later.

In the next elections in 1988 Forni ran again and was able to return to the National Assembly. However, five years later he lost his mandate when he was not re-elected. In 1997, however, she returned to parliament. From 1998 he was Vice-President, between March 29, 2000 and June 18, 2002 Chairman of the Assemblée nationale. In 2002 he was no longer elected to parliament.

Since 2004 he has been President of the Regional Council of Franche-Comté and held this office until his death in January 2008. Forni died in the Hôpital Saint-Louis in Paris of complications from a leukemia disease.
