Raymond Micha
Raymond Micha (born June 19, 1910 in Stavelot ; † July 11, 2006 ibid) was a Belgian music teacher, conductor and composer .
Life
Raymond Micha came from a family of musicians. He was the grandson of a well-known Belgian violinist and clarinetist. Several orchestra leaders came from his family. As a child, Micha had music lessons from his father Octave Micha and his uncle Eugène Micha. His father founded “Les Concerts Micha” in 1916 and later the “Concours François Prume ”. Throughout his life, through his father's activities, he found musical advice from Joseph Jongen , Fernand Quinet and René Defossez , who spent the summer in the area.
From 1929 Micha studied at the Royal Conservatory in Liège and from 1933 worked as a music teacher at various grammar schools, such as in Stavelot, Spa , Liège and Malmedy .
He led numerous choirs and instrumental ensembles in his home country. In 1957, Raymond Micha founded the “Festival de Stavelot” in memory of his father, who had died a year earlier, which has developed into a renowned chamber music institution and is now part of the concert series of the Festival de Wallonie .
In addition to numerous national and international awards, Raymond Micha received honorary citizenship of the cities of Stavelot and Malmedy.
A local Rotary club organizes the Raymond Micha competition for young wind musicians annually in Spa and Stavelot.

His compositional work includes three mass settings, an Ave Maria for male choir and organ, a pater noster for male choir a cappella, other choral works and chamber music.
