The Hawker 400 is a light twin-engine business aircraft of the US manufacturer Hawker Beechcraft , originally from the earlier Beechcraft as Raytheon Beechjet 400 had been sold.

Hawker 400XP

The aircraft, designed as a low- wing aircraft, was originally developed by Mitsubishi as a successor to the outdated MU-2 and was to come onto the market as the Mitsubishi MU-300 Diamond . The Diamond 1 completed its maiden flight in August 1978, the revised Diamond 2 on June 20, 1984. Two jet engines Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D4 served as propulsion .

After eleven Diamond 2 had been built, Mitsubishi sold the rights to the Raytheon subsidiary Beechcraft, which received FAA approval in May 1985 for the model now called the Beechjet 400 . Delivery began in June 1986, now with two JT15D5 engines and other minor improvements.

In 1990 the Beechjet 400A version came onto the market. This model had a longer range, higher take-off weight, a more luxurious interior and an EFIS cockpit.

Between 1992 and 1997, 180 T-1 Jayhawk were built for the US Air Force , which were designed as training aircraft and on which pilots for refueling and transport aircraft are trained. Another twelve Beechjet 400T went to the Japanese Air Force as training aircraft.

In 1993 Raytheon took over the Hawker business jets from British Aerospace . The Beechjet 400 was then renamed the Hawker 400. The current version, the Hawker 400XP, has been revised based on the model of the Hawker 800XP .

In 2008 the further development to the Hawker 450XP was announced. This was to be equipped with new avionics , new Pratt & Whitney W535D engines and new cabin equipment. However, the project was abandoned in 2009 for economic reasons.

In 2012 Hawker Beechcraft had to file for bankruptcy, but was able to resume business in early 2013 as the greatly reduced Beechcraft Corporation. The company is now focusing on the turboprop models and is discontinuing production of the jets. For the Hawker 400XP, however, an update program to the Hawker 400XPR version is offered, which is upgraded with more economical Williams -FJ44-4A-32 engines, winglets and modern avionics .
