The Beechcraft C-12 Huron is a US Army long-range reconnaissance aircraft with T-tail based on the King Air 200 from Beechcraft . The code name of this model in the US Army is Guardrail .

History and equipment

Beechcraft King Air machines were first used in Korea in the 1960s. In the Second Gulf War , 24 Beechcraft RC-12 Guardrail machines were used in Operation Desert Storm . Their main tasks were to eavesdrop on the enemy radio traffic and determine the radio station of the enemy. There were several variants of the machines of this type for up to six radio reconnaissance aircraft on board. The guardrail receivers installed in the aircraft were able to determine the location of opposing radio systems and transmit the intercepted radio traffic directly to their own ground-based evaluation vehicles. An ALQ-165 missile detection system was also on board. The Beechcraft C-12K , Beechcraft C-12N and Beechcraft C-12P versions have improved electronic reconnaissance equipment on board. In the containers on the wing tips of the Beechcraft RC-12D Guardrail are electronic devices for countermeasures to bypass the reconnaissance on board. With the reconnaissance and remote detection system AN / USD-9 (V) 2 Guradrail V , the enemy radio traffic could be received and the location of the radio source identified. In addition, the machines of this type had the missile detection system ALQ-156 on board. The models were given a matt gray camouflage, the labels were black. The civil version of this aircraft model was sold under the name Super King Air 200 , the first flight of which took place on October 27, 1972.

Argentina plans to procure nine used TC-12Bs and one UC-12B to be delivered by 2024.
