Ready steady go

Ready Steady Go , or RSG for short , was one of the earliest rock - pop music shows on British television . The first broadcast was in August 1963, the last in December 1966. During this period, British rock and pop music conquered the world.

The show ran on Friday evenings and started with the slogan The weekend starts here! the weekend. The opening melody was Manfred Mann's 5-4-3-2-1 (later replaced by Hubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble , also by Manfred Mann).

Initially, the bands and interpreters performed to playback , from the end of 1964 onwards some and from April 1965 onwards all appearances were live. The guests were allowed to play their songs in full, not in abbreviated versions, as was often requested in other shows.

Guests on the show included the Beatles , Gerry & the Pacemakers , the Rolling Stones , Donovan , the Dave Clark Five , Dusty Springfield , Bobby Vee , the Animals , Cilla Black , the Searchers , The Who , Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames , Billy Fury , Lulu , Van Morrison , Marvin Gaye , Gene Pitney , the Beach Boys , Sandie Shaw , Burt Bacharach , Samantha Jones , Jerry Lee Lewis , Kenny Lynch and Them . Little-known artists were also given a chance to perform, such as Peter Cook and Dudley Moore .

In 1966, when beat music began to decline in popularity, the show was canceled.
