Rebutia nigricans is a species of plant in the genus Rebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Rebutia nigricans initially grows individually, later sprouting with short cylindrical, deep green to brown-green, often purple-tinged bodies and forms groups. The bodies reach heights of up to 5 centimeters with diameters of 2 to 3.5 centimeters and have a beet root. The 11 ribs are clearly divided into conical cusps. There is no central spine . The 8 to 12 (rarely up to 16) spread to slightly ascending radial spines are brownish to white. They are arranged like a comb, needle-like and up to 10 millimeters long.
The pink to red, funnel-shaped flowers are 2 to 3 inches long. The scars are light green. The spherical fruits are green.
Distribution and systematics
Rebutia nigricans is widespread in Argentina in the province of Salta at altitudes of 3000 to 3500 meters, where it grows in the puna vegetation. The first description as Lobivia nigricans was published in 1940 by Wilhelm Wessner (1904-1983). John Pilbeam placed them in the genus Rebutia in 1997 .
