Rebutia simoniana is a species of plant in the genus Rebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German cactus lover and from 1952 to 1955 incumbent President of the German Cactus Society Wilhelm Simon (1909–1989).
description
Rebutia simoniana grows individually with spherical, bright green bodies. The bodies reach a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters and have fiber roots. The 13 ribs are arranged in a spiral and divided into cusps. The circular to oval areoles on it are whitish to brown. There are 1 to 4 strong, whitish central spines with a brown tip that are up to 7 millimeters long. The 11 to 12 glassy white radial spines are fragile and up to 5 millimeters long.
The saturated orange flowers are up to 3.5 inches long and reach the same diameter. The scars are yellowish white. The spherical fruits are olive green and have a diameter of up to 6 millimeters.
Distribution and systematics
Rebutia simoniana is widespread in Bolivia in the Chuquisaca department in the Sud Cinti province at altitudes of up to 3500 meters. The first description was published in 1984 by Walter Rausch (* 1928).
