Directed by Steve McQueen , who also wrote the script with Courttia Newland . It is the fourth film in the Small Ax series developed by McQueen for BBC One. Originally, Red, White and Blue was planned as a result of a miniseries, the film series ultimately comprises five films.

Leroy Logan, played by John Boyega in the film , was a true London Metropolitan Police officer who wanted to change the unit from the inside out after seeing his father attacked by two police officers. Logan was named an MBE by the Queen in 2001 for his role in developing anti-racist policies for policing. After 30 years of service, he retired as superintendent in 2013. Steve Toussaint and the newcomers Tyrone Huntley , Nathan Vidal and Jaden Oshenye can also be seen in other roles .

A first screening is planned for the New York Film Festival , which will start at the end of September 2020 , where Mangrove 9 and Lovers Rock will also be shown. Later in the year, the film will be released in the US on Amazon Prime Video and shown on BBC One .
