action

Undead Nightmare takes place after the main story of Red Dead Redemption , but before the death of John Marston.

One evening when John Marston returns to his house from work, he has a strange feeling. Later that night, he and his wife are woken up by uncle who has become a zombie. While John fetches his rifle, his son and wife are infected, although John was able to shoot uncle. Hoping to find a doctor for the disease, he tied her up and locked her in his home. He then rides to Blackwater to look for a doctor. Once there, he has to discover that this city is also affected by this mysterious plague, but he meets a few survivors. John Marston disappears from town after picking up some rumors of the sudden mass infection from the survivors, and rides all over New Austin in search of the answer to the plague. His search leads him to Mexico, where he meets the Aztec goddess Ayauhteotl in the form of a girl in the villa of Abraham Reyes, the ruling governor of Mexico, who leads him into a grotto, where he has to give up a mask he had found before to prevent the plague is contained. Now everything seems fine again, but after a while Seth steals this mask and John Marston rises from his grave. He now has to do his job and apparently get the zombies out of this world for good.
