action

The game begins in the 1880s and is about Red Harlow. As a teenager, he longs for the exciting life of a cowboy . He lives with his family on a farm , where one day he receives a revolver from his father and goes to practice shooting with it. Meanwhile, however, a catastrophe occurs. General Diego sent his henchmen, including Colonel Daren, to kill Red's family and to get him the "Scorpion Revolver" that is in the possession of Red's father. Red's father and mother are shot, but Red manages to shoot Colonel Daren off an arm with one shot from the revolver and flees. Years later he returns to get the hidden revolver to avenge the death of his family. Red matures into a feared bounty hunter and gunslinger. Red is then regularly offered new profiles and jobs from a sheriff named Bartlett in the town of Brimstone. By chance Red comes across the murderers from back then and now begins his merciless vengeance campaign. At his side are gradually other people, such as the farmer Annie Stoakes , an English gentleman named Jack Swift , the soldier Buffalo and the Indian Shadow Wolf . Little by little he comes closer and closer to his goal of avenging the murder of his parents.

main characters

Red Harlow
Red Harlow is the main character in Red Dead Revolver . He is the son of Nate Harlow and the Falling Star Indian . After watching his parents murdered, he becomes a bitter and cynical bounty hunter with the aim of redeeming his family's deaths. The character of Red Harlow is based on various western roles by Clint Eastwood .
Jack Swift
Jack Swift is an English gentleman and duelist. At the beginning he was held captive by a circus where he was supposed to perform as an art shooter. Red frees Jack and the two become friends. At the end of the game, Jack Swift is killed while protecting Red and Annie. The character of Jack Swift is based on Bat Masterson .
Annie Stoakes
Annie Stoakes is an indestructible lady who runs a farm on her own. Since Griffon and his henchmen want to dispute their ranch and their land, she is in dire straits because she refused a sale and Griffon therefore tried to use force to usurp the land. After she was able to defend her country for some time, she meets Red there, who gives her a hand. This incident makes the two allies.
Buffalo Soldier
Buffalo Soldier is a former Griffon soldier who was jailed for disobedience. He first meets Red in a dungeon , where he frees him. Buffalo does not join Red, however, but wants to kill Griffon in another way.
Shadow Wolf
Shadow Wolf is an Indian and member of the Red Wolf tribe. He has long been friends with Red, his cousin, and Shadow Wolf calls Red a member of his tribe. In the end he is murdered by Colonel Daren.

Gameplay

The game character is controlled from a third person view . The western desert town of Brimstone serves as the central element. There the player receives new orders from the sheriff. You follow a main story and gradually you go through 27 different chapters (levels), for example through a ghost town or a mine, there are rides on horses, a train ride or a canyon. In most cases, the areas can be explored freely. There are more frequent duels in the game, in which the so-called dead-eye function comes into play. This is comparable to the bullet-time effect from other games. During the duels, the camera takes a position close to the character.

useful information

  • Connoisseurs will discover countless allusions and bows in the game. For example, a boss opponent carries a machine gun around in a coffin, just like Franco Nero in Django .
  • Red Harlow's appearance and demeanor as a cynical, silent antihero is based on Clint Eastwood, and Jack Swift is based on Bat Masterson's appearance and demeanor.
  • The in-game tournament was modeled on the movie Faster Than Death . In this film there is even a "Red" on the list of applicants for the shooting competition.
  • At the end of the 16th chapter you duel with three opponents named Sergio , Ennio and Eli . Another allusion, this time to Sergio Leone , Ennio Morricone and Eli Wallach , three icons of the Spaghetti Western .
  • The cover picture of the game cover is based on the cinema poster from the film The Texaner with Clint Eastwood.
  • The original concept of the game actually came from Capcom and had fantastic elements, such as fighting against zombies. Later, after Capcom stopped developing the game due to the average quality of their version, the Western concept was then taken over by Rockstar Games and further developed, and a quasi completely different game was developed from it. The first presentation of Red Dead Revolver was at the E3 game fair in 2002.
