Red Lodge is a city in the US state of Montana . The place with 2177 inhabitants is located in Carbon County and is also its county seat (administrative seat).

Founded in 1884, Red Lodge was initially a transit station for travelers, until nearby coal deposits were discovered in the 1890s and the place experienced an upswing. Miners came mainly from Europe and settled down, so that the city had around 5000 inhabitants in 1911. In the 1920s, mining began to decline in the area. The last working mine was closed soon after a disaster in 1943 that killed 74 miners.

Since 1936 Red Lodge has been connected to the Beartooth Highway and thus also to Yellowstone National Park . Today the place is developed for tourism.
