Arthur Jensen (born November 9, 1897 in Copenhagen , † November 28, 1981 there ) was a Danish actor .

Life

Jensen, the son of a restaurant owner, first learned the tailoring trade. From 1920 to 1923 he attended the theater school of the Kongelige Teater and had his debut appearance at this theater in 1923 in a production of Hans Christian Andersen's Den nye barselstue . In the 1930s he was engaged at Det Ny Teater and had great success there in a production of In the West Nothing New . In addition to his work as a character actor, he was also in demand as a comedian and revue actor; Among other things, he appeared in the last revue at Scala in Copenhagen in 1930 ( Punktum-Finale ) and toured with the Cirkusrevyen in the 1940s and 1950s .

Since 1925 he was also seen in the cinema, initially in four Pat & Patachon silent film comedies by Lau Lauritzen sr. This was followed by roles in films by Danish directors such as Holger-Madsen , Jon Iversen (1889–1964), George Schnéevoigt (1893–1961) and Annelise Reenberg (1919–1994). In the 1930s he appeared in more than a dozen films, many including Alice O'Fredericks (1899–1968) and Lau Lauritzen Jr. staged, together with Ib Schønberg (1902–1955) as a comic duo. In the 1960s and 1970s he played quirky supporting roles in comedy series by Sven Methling , John Hilbard and Werner Hedman . He owed national and international fame to his collaboration with comedy specialist Erik Balling : both his appearances in five Olsen Gang films and his memorable characters in two Balling television series (he played the caretaker Meyer in all 84 episodes of the series Oh, these tenants and Rudolf Schwann in the first 12 episodes of Matador ) ensured Jensen's continued popularity, especially in Denmark.

His grave is on Vestre Kirkegård in Copenhagen.
