Astrid Henning-Jensen

Astrid Henning-Jensen (born December 10, 1914 in Copenhagen as Astrid Smahl ; † January 5, 2002 ibid) was a Danish director and screenwriter .

Life

Henning-Jensen began her career as an actress in the theater. In 1941 she started working for the film production company Nordisk . With her husband Bjarne Henning-Jensen, whom she met at the theater and married in 1938, Henning-Jensen directed films such as “Ditte - ein Menschenkind” (1946) and “Verflixte Rangen” (1947). In 1949 she directed alone for the first time and won the prize for the best short film at the Cannes International Film Festival with “Palle Alone in the World” . Her feature film Pao from the Jungle was nominated for “Best Foreign Language Film” at the 1960 Academy Awards . Her next big success came in 1979 when she won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for directing the film Winterkinder . In 1981 Henning-Jensen was on the jury of the Berlin International Film Festival.
