redspotgames was a video game publisher , distributor and promoter from Munich . The company was considered to be close to the scene and value high-quality packaging design.

history

redspotgames was founded in 2005 and emerged from the independent Sega Dreamcast scene . The company made its first appearance at the Games Convention of the same year.

Their first published game, Last Hope for Dreamcast , is a port of the Neo Geo AES Shoot 'em up of the same name from NG: DEV.TEAM and was released on January 31, 2007. It is the reigning best-selling "indie" title on Dreamcast. While the regular edition came on the market on a CD-ROM with a full-color manual and spine card, the limited edition also offered double jewel case packaging, an OST booklet, a remastered soundtrack CD in a vinyl look and handwritten numbering on the Spinecard. Only 500 pieces were produced and were completely sold out just five days after the start of the pre-order campaign. This version currently reaches up to 250 euros on online auction houses.

In 2007 the second appearance took place at the Games Convention in Leipzig . The current game Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles by Yuan Works was playable in a GP2X version and was also announced for Dreamcast. A demo version of the Dreamcast version was published on the cover CD of the German print magazine "Retro" (issue 8).

On November 1, 2008, Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles was released. The official start of delivery was given on the same day at the Retro Gaming Connexion in Congis-sur-Thérouanne ( France ), where redspotgames was represented with a booth.

At the end of October 2009, redspotgames finally released the third Dreamcast game, the fun racer Rush Rush Rally Racing developed by the Dutch Senile Team .

In 2013 business operations were stopped.

Trade fair presentations

The many presentations at trade fairs, events or stock exchanges related to video games are particularly remarkable. In addition to three appearances at the Games Convention, the company was also represented at smaller events such as the Vintage Computer Festival Europe (Munich), Karlsruhe Retro-Börse ( Karlsruhe ) or the Retro Gaming Connexion ( Congis-sur-Thérouanne , France ). In addition, redspotgames sponsored the Swiss demo scene event Buenzli.

The print magazine M! Games (formerly MAN! AC) was positively surprised by the alternative presentation concept at the Games Convention and described the performance as punk rock .

At Christmas 2008, the publisher organized a “Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles” tournament in Nuremberg with prizes, near the historic Nuremberg Christmas Market .
