Henggart Church

The Reformed Church Henggart is a church building in the municipality of Henggart , Switzerland .

history

The present church was built in 1820 according to plans by Johannes Volkart in the classical style. Originally an octagonal church was planned, possibly a transverse church based on the model of the Wilchingen church . However, the community preferred a simpler and cheaper variant of Volkart's original project. The church was last renovated in 1972.

description

The church follows the scheme of the simple hall church with a polygonal end . This construction scheme was very popular in Protestant sacred architecture in Switzerland well into the 19th century. The Henggart Church is one of the last examples of this type. The main facade is hardly designed apart from a sign . The side facades, on the other hand, are clearly structured by high arched windows. Above the choir there is a generously designed roof turret with a clock and bell storey. It is crowned by a Welschen hood .

The simple interior features a wooden loft with a 1974-built Mathis - organ above the main entrance. (The 1931 built Kuhn -Orgel had been central in the chorus.) The stucco is limited to a simple rectangular ceiling mirror in the middle of a chandelier in the Empire style hangs. The font and pulpit are located in the polygonal choir zone.
