The Reformed Church ( Italian : Chiesa evangelica ) in Poschiavo in the Grisons Poschiavo is an Evangelical - Reformed church under cantonal conservation . The church bears the Italian name Santa Trinità (Holy Trinity) and is located north of the town hall. It was last restored in 1971–1974.

history

The Reformation reached Poschiavo between 1547 and 1549 through the work of Giuseppe della Rovere and Pier Paolo Vergerio . First the services of both denominations took place in the parish church of S. Vittore. While in Poschiavo, unlike in Brusio, there were no riots against the supporters of the Reformation on the occasion of the Valtellina murder , the victory of the Catholic party in the first phase of the Bündner turmoil in 1622 meant that the Reformed church service in Poschiavo was prohibited. After the end of the turmoil in Graubünden, an understanding was reached between the Reformed and Catholic communities in 1642. In return for financial compensation, the Reformed community waived all of its claims to shared use of the Catholic churches and chapels in the valley and began building its own church in the Borgo of Poschiavo. The construction of the church was completed in 1649 and that of the tower in 1685. According to inscriptions inside the church, restorations took place in 1769, 1841, 1862, 1911 and 1930.

Today Poschiavo is an independent parish of the Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden within the Colloquium VII Engiadin'Ota-Bregaglia-Poschiavo-Sursès .

Building description

The church tower of the type of an Italian campanile adjoins the facade to the north and is characterized by its size and the octagon of the tower crowned by a dome.

The church faces east and is a four-bay hall church without a choir. The spacious baroque church interior is characterized by stucco and a central pulpit on the east wall with a high staircase on both sides. The organ is more recent and was installed in 1978.
