Reformed Church Safien Platz
The Reformed Church in Safien Platz in the canton of Grisons is a Grade II listed Evangelical - Reformed church just before the entrance to Carnusaschlucht .
History and equipment
Today's church is a late Gothic new building from 1510 under the patronage of John . In the years 1768, 1886 and 1958 the church was renovated.
The church tower adjoins the south side of the building and in the lower part testifies to a Romanesque predecessor church with a rectangular choir .
A pre-Reformation font from 1510 dominates the interior of the church . The organ was installed in 1958.
Dispute over the big bell
1658 after the end of the turmoil in Graubünden , the church received a new bell, cast by Theodosius Ernst in Lindau . However, this had a casting defect. The Safier hung them in the tower, but they weren't willing to pay. After Ernst threatened to file an action with the district court in Thusis , the Safier gave in and paid him the wages.
Church organization
Safien Platz was in pastoral fellowship with the other villages in the Safien Valley as well as with Versam and Valendas until these parishes merged on January 1st, 2013. The new parish Safiental belongs to the Colloquium I Ob dem Wald within the Evangelical Reformed Church of Graubünden .
