Reformed Church Schönenberg
The reformed church Schönenberg is a Zurich country church built by fortress builder Hans Caspar Werdmüller in the baroque style .
history
With the construction of the church from 1701–1703, Schönenberg's formal separation from the parish of Wädenswil took place . Due to the location of Schönenberg on the border with the Catholic canton of Schwyz, the church and rectory were laid out within a fortified churchyard. Support for the construction of a separate church was granted on condition that the churchyard, of which the north wall still stands, would be fortified as an integral part of the regional defense concept.
Construction and equipment
The church is designed as a simple hall church with a polygonal choir closure . The front tower with a pointed helmet was added in 1897 according to plans by Herrmann Fietz and forms a small entrance hall with its basement.
Three of the colored glass windows in neo-renaissance style show figural motifs: the former central window shows Christ and is now in the left choir window. Two colored glass windows in the nave show the reformers Martin Luther and Huldrych Zwingli . There are Bible verses on the baptismal font and on the side walls.
organ
The organ from 1973 in the choir comes from the Kuhn company and has two manuals and a pedal .
