The Reformed Church Friesenberg is an Evangelical Reformed sacral building in Zurich city district Friesenberg . It is located at Borrweg 71 opposite the Catholic Church of St. Theresia . Since January 1, 2019, the church and the associated center have belonged to parish three of the Evangelical Reformed parish of Zurich.

Building history

The quarter was created in several stages from the 1920s onwards through large-scale developments, including numerous social housing . Like the Catholic Church, the Reformed parish also recognized the need to provide pastoral care close to families with many children. That is why the Reformed Church of Friesenberg was built on Borrweg opposite the Catholic Church of St. Theresa, which was blessed in 1933. The ensemble of rectory (1941) and parish hall (1942) including church (1946–1947) was built in two stages according to the plans of the architects Müller & Freitag.

Building description

Sober forms dominate both inside and outside, but they are also clearly distinguished from ambitious projects in modern church building (such as the New Church Altstetten , consecrated in 1941 ). A bell tower with a clock tower and a tent roof is attached to the unadorned nave .

The interior forms a lengthwise hall church of stately dimensions with a front gallery on the southeast side. The church is oriented towards the simple liturgy zone with a wooden pulpit . The closing wall is dominated by a wooden cross and the motto "Thy kingdom come", according to ( Mt 6,10  LUT ). The segmental arched windows of the nave are decorated with stained glass depicting the Christmas story. The drafts of the glass paintings come from Heinrich Müller, the execution was carried out by the Zurich art glass factory Mäder.

The spacious parish hall from the time the church was built is directly connected to the sacred space. It has several congregation rooms and a large hall that takes up the style of the church interior and which was used as a place of worship before the actual church was built.

organ

On a smaller gallery in the western corner of the church is the 1948 inaugurated Kuhn - organ , the two manuals and a pedal with 14 sounding registers has two extensions and an excerpt. Originally there were 12 registers; the organ was overhauled in 1967 by the builder company, and the instrument was also expanded to include the reed stops in the swell and in the pedal.
