Re-photography

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rephotography or Rephotography is the repeated recording of the same scene which has been recorded at an earlier time. Old cityscapes are often used as a template - often from old postcards due to the lack of access to other traditional images . The fundamental aspect of re-photography lies in the obvious difference between the two images.

execution

First a suitable picture is required, which was taken some time ago, whereby it is not the time interval that is decisive, but the difference to the new picture. It is advisable to carry out a re-photograph as precisely as possible from the location from which the original image was taken. The photographer can orientate himself on edges, angles and other environmental features.

Developers at MIT and Adobe Inc. have developed software that compares the live image from a digital camera with an old photo and thus instructs the photographer on how to use the camera for an optimized result. They call this technique Computational Rephotography .

Presence in everyday life

Since the introduction of the digital camera at the end of the 1990s, the spread of photographic prints has experienced an upswing.

The historypin project provides a service that enables old recordings to be placed on Google Street View maps as a single layer . You can also upload your own old pictures there.
