The Refuge Adèle Planchard is a refuge in France in Pelvoux at 3,169 m above sea level, at the foot of the Grande Ruine in the Écrins National Park . The historic refuge was built in 1926. Even though a new refuge was built next to it in 1981, the old one was not demolished. It is the highest mountain hut that can be reached via a hiking trail.

history

In February 1925, Adèle Planchard bequeathed an amount to the Société des Touristes du Dauphiné for the realization of the work in the high mountains.

At the place called "Campement Gravelotte" the STD had a shelter built, which was inaugurated on August 15, 1927. Realization was entrusted to the Grenoble company Bouchet-Viallet.

Properties and characteristics

The old shelter still exists, but is no longer used. The new hut has space for 53 people and 26 people during the unguarded time. The hut is open from the beginning of April to mid-May and from mid-June to mid-September, often depending on snow and weather conditions.

Like most of the mountain huts in Pelvoux, this mountain hut has no fixed water catchment area, which makes water supply difficult. The water used by the hut warden is always melt water or rainwater, i.e. not mineralized water.

The refuge mainly serves as a refuge for mountaineers in the Grande Ruine .

Access

From Pont d'Arsine in Villar-d'Arêne, follow the marked path that follows the course of the Romanche on the left bank. It winds through the Plan de l'Alpe valley to the sources of the Romanche and then flows into the glacier moraine of the Plate de Agneaux . After passing the moraine, the path climbs steeply until you reach the hut.

This hike through the Plan de l'Alpe and then into the high mountains can be done without technical equipment once the snow fields have melted. It takes five to six hours on foot with a distance of about 13 km and an ascent of 1500 m .
