Vardar region
The Vardar region ( Macedonian Вардарски регион Vardarski region , Albanian Rajoni vardar ) is one of the eight statistical regions , the highest administrative level in the Republic of North Macedonia . The administrative unit is divided into seven opštini, which represent the lowest administrative level. The region is located in the center of the country and borders Greece in the south . Neighboring regions are Pelagonia , southwest , Skopje , east and southeast (turning clockwise from southwest). The region is named after the central Macedonian river Vardar .
Regions in North Macedonia do not fulfill any administrative tasks, but are only there for purely statistical purposes. In some cases, however, they form historical regions that are and were economically and culturally linked.
