Skopje region
The Skopje region ( Macedonian Скопски регион Skopski region ; Albanian Rajoni Shkup ) is one of the eight statistical regions , the highest administrative level in the Republic of North Macedonia . The administrative unit is divided into eight opštini, which represent the lowest administrative level. However, the municipality of Skopje is still divided into 10 districts, which have certain functions of self-government. The region is located in the north of the country and borders Kosovo . Neighboring regions are Polog in the west , the southwest in the southwest , Vardar in the south, the east in the southeast and the northeast in the east . The region was named after the Macedonian capital Skopje .
Regions in Macedonia do not perform any administrative tasks, but are only there for purely statistical purposes. In some cases, however, they form historical regions that are and were economically and culturally linked.
