The Reichenberg ( 223  m ) is an elevation in the Saxon community of Moritzburg in the middle of Saxony in the natural area of West Lusatian hills and mountains . Due to the special features of the landscape, the mountain is part of a landscape conservation area.

Location and surroundings

The Reichenberg is located approx. 5 km south of Moritzburg and approx. 2 km north of Radebeul . The villages of Reichenberg (with the mountain settlement "Hochland") and Wahnsdorf are located near the mountain . There is a bench built by residents on the summit.

view

Since the mountain is not completely forested, but rather has hedges and mountain meadows in the summit area, there is a wide view from the highest point. This is comparable to the one on the Wahnsdorfer Kuppe . The view extends over large parts of the plateau north of Dresden, known as the Lausitzer Platte, to the Westlausitzer Bergland, to the northeast the Keulenberg landmark with the surrounding Westlausitzer mountains (Schwarzenberg, Tännchenberg, Tännichtberg, Hochstein and others also to the Valtenberg). , further north to the Moritzburger Land with the Friedewald and Moritzburg pond area and hilltop landscape , to the Großenhainer Pflege , with good visibility to the city of Radeburg . To the east, the nearby ridge of the higher Wahnsdorfer Kuppe and the (Gr./Kl.) Gallberg block the view.

nature

The Reichenberg is home to many rare bird species of the Moritzburg small peaks landscape all year round due to a biotope island , because on and on the mountain there are elongated natural hedges. The mountain slope on the west side leads into a small notch valley, the Vogelgründchen, in which the highland spring rises. There is no hiking trail through the valley, and it is very difficult to walk due to the overgrown forest and the spring with the associated wetland. The most common types are hornbeam and English oak . Bird species feel very comfortable due to the mountain slopes that are not used for agriculture (in the uppermost area) and the wild, sometimes original, mountain forest. The Reichenberg is only used for arable farming on the lower and middle mountain slopes.

Paths to the summit

The best way to get to Reichenberg is via an unmarked but clear field path that branches off at the street Am Wasserturm and August-Bebel-Straße. On the way you pass a spruce spruce tree and you also have wide views of the Moritzburg area. However, there is no path that enables the direct ascent.
