The house Reichenstrasse 37 is a listed building in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located in the northern part of the historic Quedlinburger Neustadt and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . The building is registered in the Quedlinburg monument register as a residential building. Martinshof , which is also a listed building , borders to the north and Reichenstrasse 38 to the south .

Architecture and history

The two-storey half - timbered house was built in 1660 for the cloth maker and presumably guild master Hans Linde the Younger (1619–1693), who ran his business here. The construction was carried out by the carpenter Andreas Bock . An inscription named M.ANDREAS BOCK refers to him . The neighboring buildings at Reichenstrasse 36 and 38 were built at the same time. The building comprises six roof structures and three window axes . The decorative elements are stylized ship throats and a rather late appearance of notch cut motifs on the beam heads . The compartments are provided with decorative lining. The decorations are similar to those used on the neighboring Martinshof, the former guild hall of the Neustadt draperies.

After Linde's death, the house passed to his son-in-law Hans Kluge, a draper and miller from Halberstadt . The drapery was not continued in the house. Later the council chamberlain Johann Andreas Morgenstern set up a school for the poor in the building through a foundation. It existed until 1790.

Originally the half-timbered structure was constructed in the form of a row of stands , but was then converted into a stand rhythm in the early 18th century . The design of the thresholds remained unchanged.

In the period around 1840 the windows and the gate passage on the side were renewed.
