history

Otto Reichl

Otto Reichl (1877–1954) was the son of Marie Reichl, née Peter, and the shoe manufacturer Franz Reichl. He spent his three-year apprenticeship at the Robert Friese bookstore. Then he attended the bookseller school. In 1909 he founded Reichl & Co., Verlag GmbH , in which the "German Library", a popular edition of over 200 volumes of important texts in German literature, appeared. With this series, in cooperation with the Berlin department store Wertheim, the basis for the modern department store book trade was laid. The three-armed candlestick, which was entered in the trademark register in 1914, became the publisher's trademark. Shortly after the First World War , the company headquarters were relocated to Darmstadt. Under the aegis of Count Hermann Keyserling , the publishing house quickly became the publisher of the most important philosophical and intellectual-historical works. Lectures of the Darmstadt "School of Wisdom" were printed in the annual volumes "Der Leuchter" between 1919 and 1927. From 1948 to 1951 Günther Neske was a partner in Reichl Verlag.

Herwart of Guilleaume

In 1953, after the publishing house had practically come to a standstill since 1930, a successor was found in Herwarth von Guilleaume who rebuilt the publishing house, focusing on Christian mysticism and parapsychology . The new publishing house was Haus Herresberg , from Guilleaum's residence in Remagen . One project from this period was the publication of the controversial transcripts of Carl Wickland's obsessional conversations . At the beginning of the 1980s, Herwarth von Guilleaume and the current owner, Matthias Dräger, who succeeded Guilleaume as publishing director, met for the first time.

Matthias Dräger

Matthias Dräger has headed the publishing house since 1984; the core area of the previous program could be retained. Starting in 1984, the areas of life support and medicine were added .
