Reichsbahn Cloppenburg (officially: Reichsbahn Sportgemeinschaft Cloppenburg ) was a sports club from Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony . The first soccer team played for two years in the then first-class Gauliga Weser-Ems .
history
The association was founded by employees of the Deutsche Reichsbahn . Neither the founding date nor the club colors are known. In 1943 the Cloppenburgers were included in the then first-class Gauliga Weser-Ems and initially assigned to the Oldenburg-Friesland squadron. After four games , including a 3-2 win against VfL Oldenburg , the Reichsbahner were transferred to the Osnabrück relay because there were too few teams there. In the Osnabrück relay, the Cloppenburger remained without a win. Shortly before the start of the 1944/45 season , the team was withdrawn. The further fate of the club is unknown.
The highlight of the club's history was a friendly game against the soldiers' team Rote Jäger on March 4, 1944. The Cloppenburg team formed a syndicate with the Luftwaffe SV Ahlhorn and clearly lost 6-0. Fritz Walter , who later became the national player and world champion in 1954 , scored three goals for the Rote Jäger .
