Reich Deputation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Holy Roman Empire, the imperial deputation was each imperial committee chosen by the emperor and the empire to do business . The Reichsdeputationstag was the meeting of such a deputation. The results of the Reich Deputation were recorded in a final report called the main conclusion.

Ordinary deputation

The so-called Ordinary Reich Deputation represented the Reichstag during its non-session time and ensured, with the Reich circles, that the peace was maintained . Since 1663, due to the permanence of the Perpetual Reichstag, no further regular Reichsdeputations have been carried out.

A proper Imperial Deputation consisted of all the electors , a few imperial princes whose number was determined and increased from time to time, two counts, one imperial prelate and six imperial cities . The electoral ambassadors formed a special college, the rest together formed a second, which Austria presided over.

Extraordinary deputation

There were also the extraordinary Reich Deputations , which were assigned internal and external affairs on the one hand. Such an extraordinary deputation could take place in a Reichstag as well as in another place. As a rule, it consisted of delegates from all three Reichstag colleges.

The most important commissions related to internal problems were the investigations of the Reich Chamber of Commerce , the last of which took place in 1776. The Reich peace deputations were of particular importance in external affairs . The most well-known and at the same time most momentous was the commission, which met in Regensburg on August 24, 1802 , and which, shortly before the end of the Holy Roman Empire, carried out an extensive restructuring of the empire with the main Imperial Deputation.
