Rein Tootmaa (born March 3, 1957 in Tõrva ) is an Estonian writer and critic.

Life

Rein Tootmaa went to school in Tõrva from 1964 to 1975 and studied Estonian Philology at the University of Tartu from 1975 to 1980 . After graduating, he worked for two years as a library editor and was a teacher of Estonian and literature in Kingissepa from 1982 to 1985 . From 1985 to 1992 he was director of the Saaremaa Film Archive . He then worked as a freelance worker for various newspapers.

Rein Tootmaa made his debut in 1980 with short stories in the Edasi newspaper and published his first collection of short stories in 1987. One critic drew comparisons to the “three big“ Vs ”of contemporary Estonian literature ( Vabing , Valton , Vint )” and stated that Valton was mainly influenced by Valton, while others noticed the frequency of the dream motif, “as if the author was looking for a truth in human life that can only be found through the grotesque of dreams through a distorting mirror.
